Asian Games: Ashwini-Sikki break record, in quarters

Jakarta: After three decades, India’s Ashwini Ponnappa paired up with Sikki Reddy to qualify for the women’s doubles quarterfinals at the Asian Games on Thursday.

Ashwini-Sikki registered a hard fought 21-17, 16-21, 21-19 win against Malaysian duo Mei Kuan Chow and Meng Yean Lee.

The last time India achieve this feat was Hurfish Nariman and Mallika Barua in 1986.

Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the men’s singles after a second round defeat to Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent 21-23, 19-21.
