Jakarta, August 27: India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra bagged an historic gold at the ongoing Asian Games here on Monday.
Neeraj sealed the gold medal throwing 83.46 metres in his first attempt. China’s Liu Qizhen was a distant second with a best throw of 82.22m while archrival Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem took home a bronze with an 80.75 effort.
The winning throw broke his own national record with a distance of 88.06m. Chopra’s gold is India’s only second medal in javelin throw in Asian Games history after Gurtej Singh won a bronze in 1982 in New Delhi.
With this win, India collected their 8th gold medal at the Asian Games.
