Bengaluru, September 29: After a satisfying domestic career, former Karnataka all-rounder Balachandra Akhil has begun an innings as a BCCI Match Referee.
Out of the 14 candidates, the 40-year-old cricketer Akhil topped the Match Referees’ course securing 91 out of 100 in the exam held in July. The exam included theory, code of conduct practicals and role play.
The Friends Union Cricket Club player is also BCCI level 1 coach.
In the recently concluded seventh edition of the Karnataka Premier League, Akhil was one among the commentators while chairs the Karnataka Under-19 selection committee.
The former Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kochi Tuskers Kerala player, Akhil has represented Karnataka Under-19 in the 1995 Cooch- Behar Trophy and later was selected for the senior team in 1998.
In 51 first-class matches, Akhil has made 1,810 runs and bagged 49 wickets.
