Having spent the Indian Premier League 12 season on the bench for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal is all but ready for the upcoming edition in United Arab Emirates from September 19.
The left-handed batter Padikkal dominated the domestic 2019-20 season scoring 1838 in 33 games to catch the eye of the franchise, especially skipper Virat Kohli.
“The turnaround in a year has been magical It’s been a long wait but I hope I will be able to continue my good run in this IPL,” told Deccan Herald.
While most of the other franchisees bolstered their squad with quality players from Karnataka, on the other hand, RCB more often benched one or two local players. But this time, Padikkal may feature in the playing XI, while we have to wait and watch if another local boy Pavan Deshpande gets an opportunity to swing his willow.
During his outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last season, Padikkal’s dominant performance was quickly noticed by the fans.
“Fans from Karnataka are amazing. They really get behind you. During the domestic season, I have realised how they want to see the players do well. I wanted to play in a packed Chinnaswamy stadium. That was something that I always looked forward to. Hopefully, it happens next season,” he said.
