Bengaluru, September 20: Defending champions Karnataka began their title defence on a sour note going down to Maharashtra by 57 runs via VJD method in a rain curtailed match here on Thursday.
At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Ankit Bawne (104, 115b, 10×4, 1×6) scored a century while skipper Rahul Tripathi (70, 68b, 7×4, 2×6) powered the visitors to a healthy 245/8.
Karnataka pacer troika captain R. Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun, Prasidh Krishna and off-spinner K. Gowtham picked up two wickets apiece.
In reply, in-form Mayank Agarwal failed to fire while his team-mates too didn’t convert after getting good starts before heavy downpour stalled the match. At that stage, Karnataka were struggling at 107/6 in 22.4 overs.
This was Maharashtra’s second win in the championship.
