Bengaluru, August 23: On Friday evening, records tumbled at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as K. Gowtham’s one-man show led Ballari Tuskers to an incredible 70 runs against a hapless Shivamogga Lions in the Karnataka Premier League encounter here.
Gowtham’s entertaining 56-ball 134 not out and later picking up an astonishing match-winning eight-wicket was the cynosure of the clash that kept the spectators on their feet.
The lanky all-rounder knock included seven hits to the fence and 13 sixes to overtake Mayank Agarwal and Manish Pandey’s highest individual score in the KPL. Followed by the blitzkrieg innings, the off-spin from Gowtham had eight out of the possible ten back in the hut.
Batting first, Ballari rode on Gowtham’s ton to post an unchasable 203 in the reduced 17 overs. In the reply, the Lions were never in the hunt succumbing to just 133 on the board.
Akshay Ballal (41) and Pawan Deshpande (45) came up with a fight but it wasn’t simply enough to get past Gowtham’s destructive spell.
Brief scores: Ballari Tuskers: 203/3 in 17 overs (Gowtham K. 134 not out, Abhishek Reddy 34) bt Shivamogga Lions: 133 all out in 16.3 overs (Akshay Ballal 41, Pawan Deshpande 45, Gowtham K 8/15) by 70 runs.
