With 27 medals in their kitty, Karnataka are sitting on the top of the medals tally in the swimming events at the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati on Monday.
So far, Karnataka have won 15 gold medals.
On Monday, Srihari Nataraj stole the show with two first place finishes in the men’s U-21 events.
Srihari won the 200m medley in 2:17.61 to beat Chhattisgarh’s Rudraksh Sahu, who clocked 2:19.04. Gujarat’s Shivam Jethudi, who timed 2:19.72 settled for the third spot.
The Karnataka swimmer then eased to victory in the 200m backstroke. He took 2:07.54 seconds to claim gold. Anurag Dagar of Delhi (2:11.08) and Soumyajit Saha of West Bengal (2:13.25) claimed the second and third positions respectively.
Among others, Aneesh Gowda timed 8:40.29 to finish first in boys’ under-17 800m freestyle.
Karnataka trio — Suvana C Baskar, Ridhima Veerendra Kumar and Nina Venkatesh — completed the podium in girls’ under-17 200m backstroke. Suvana in 2:23.64 clinched the gold while Ridhima (2:28.14) and Nina (2:28.99) claimed silver and bronze respectively.
