An action-packed Ranji Trophy season is nearing the knockout stage with top teams in the Elite Group A & B vying for a spot in the quarterfinals.
With the final league game against Baroda starting from Wednesday at their home ground M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka are currently placed fifth on the table with 25 points from seven games.
Baroda are languishing somewhere in the bottom half with 14 points and practically have no possibility of making it to the next stage. At this moment, nothing to lose from this game, the visitors could well be party-crashers to derail the hosts’ run. Karnataka simply can’t afford for a slip-up at this juncture of the campaign.
Karnataka-led by Karun Nair are closely followed by Punjab (24 points) in sixth place while Uttar Pradesh (20) in seventh.
And the return of their star pacer Prasidh Krishna is a huge boost to the team while resting fellow pacer Prateek Jain. Along with Abhimanyu Mithun, Prasidh is likely to share the new ball and Ronit More will be the third pacer in the line-up.
Meanwhile, Karnataka have also recalled batsman Nischal D in place of Rohan Kadam – following a poor show with the bat. Samarth R has been named the Karun’s deputy.
Team: Karun Nair (Captain), Samarth R (V Captain), Devdutt Padikkal, Nischal D, Pavan Deshpande, Sharath Srinivas (WK), Shreyas Gopal, Gowtham K, Mithun A, Siddharth KV, Prasidh M Krishna, Pravin Dubey, Koushik V, Ronit More, Sharath BR (WK).
