Ranji Trophy: Dharmendrasinh turns it for Saurashtra

Rajkot, December 7: Left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja bowled a brilliant spell to put Saurashtra on top against Karnataka on the second day of the Elite Group A clash of the Ranji Trophy, here on Friday.

On a slow pitch at the Saurashtra CA Stadium,  Dharmendrasinh put Karnataka batsmen in a spin to grab a career-best 7/103. Supporting him, off-spinner Kamlesh Makvana took two wickets to crash Karnataka for 217, 99 runs short of Saurashtra’s total.

The hosts began on overnight 288/9, managed to post 317 with petty contributions from the tail. Makavana made 46.

In reply, Karnataka failed to build on partnerships and lost wickets in regular intervals to give hosts an upperhand in the four-day game. Opener D. Nischal (58, 179b, 1×6) and Karun Nair (63, 83b, 11×4) scored fifties each while the rest failed to fire.

Brief scores: Saurashtra (I innings, o/n 288/9): 316 all out in 97.1 overs (Kamlesh Makvana 46, Yuvraj Chudasama 20 not out, J. Suchith 6/111) vs Karnataka (I innings): 217 all out in 78.1 overs (D. Nischal 58, Karun Nair 63, Pawan Deshpande 27, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja 7/103, Kamlesh Makvana 2/58)
