Bengaluru, December 12: Little less than two weeks ago in Surat, the newly-wedded K. Gowtham bowled a title-winning last over in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Tamil Nadu.
Against the same opponent in their own state, the lanky off-spinner Gowtham bagged a stellar match-winning 14/170 (6/110 & 8/60) to help Karnataka register a thrilling 26-run victory on the fourth day of Ranji Trophy season opener at Dindigul, here on Thursday.
Again bowling last over of the game, Gowtham trapped K Vignesh leg-before to take full six points.
Chasing a modest target of 181, Tamil Nadu’s run was derailed by Gowtham. In the second innings, apart from Abhinav Mukund (42), none of the hosts’ batsmen were able to read the spinner on the surface tailor-made for the tweakers. The Dinesh Karthik-led side, once who were in the race to record a win, were wrapped up for a meager 154.
Karnataka next take on Uttar Pradesh at Hubbali on 17th December.
