Ranji Trophy: Karnataka escape with draw against Vidarbha

Nagpur, November 15: With a meagre target of 158 to chase, Karnataka fumbled a golden opportunity to record an outright victory against Ranji Trophy champions Vidarbha on the final day, here on Thursday.

With Vidarbha beginning their day on overnight 72/2, were bowled out for 228 with left-arm spinner Suchith J leading the charge with a five-wicket haul while lanky pacer Prasidh Krishna grabbing three wickets.

Karnataka had little more than a session to overhaul the target but their batting collapse had Vidarbha fighting it out for a come-from-behind victory. The visitors managed to finish at 72/6. Aditya Sarwate bowled his heart out to take four wickets while Lalit Yadav took two.

Meanwhile, Vinay Kumar’s side were happy to grab three points in the season opener virtue of first innings lead while Vidarbha settled for one.

Brief scores: Vidarbha: I innings 307 and (II innings, O/n 72/2):  228 all out in 86.1 overs (Ganesh Satish 79 (164b, 10×4), Apoorv Wankhade 51 (75b, 7×4), Suchith J. 5/70, Prasidh Krishna 3/58) drew with Karnataka I innings: 378 & II innings: (II innings): 76/6 in 33 overs (R. Samarth 30, Aditya Sarwate 4/24, Lalit Yadav 2/12).
