Surat, December 13: After a bright start to the campaign, the ongoing Ranji Trophy season for Karnataka hit the skids after suffering a humiliating loss to Saurashtra. And now, the return of dashing opener Mayank Agarwal and all-rounder K. Gowtham gives them the required boost for their Elite Group A tie against Gujarat on Friday.

The duo has joined the squad after a successful New Zealand tour with the India ‘A’. But the seasoned Karun Nair will miss the encounter owing to a finger injury sustained in the previous game. He has been advised two-week rest.

Meanwhile, Karnataka skipper R. Vinay Kumar will be looking forward to pick the right combination of players in the XI to get back to the winning ways at Surat.

Gujarat is placed second in the table with 17 points from five matches while Karnataka are fifth from four games with 12.

Team: Vinay Kumar R (captain), Shreyas Gopal (vice-captain), Nischal D, Siddharth KV, Samarth R, Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt Padikal, Sharath BR (WK), Suchith J, Mithun A, Ronit More, Pavan Deshpande, Sharath Srinivas (Wk), Gowtham K, Prateek Jain, Coach: Yere K Goud, Bowling Coach: Arvind S.
