Jammu, February 24: With the weather playing spoilsport for the first two days of the crucial quarterfinal clash of the Ranji Trophy here, Karnataka had just nine sessions to make the semifinals of the premier domestic tournament.
Thanks to off-spinner K. Gowtham (7/54) and KV Siddharth’s patient 98 gave Karnataka the much-needed boost to power their side into the semifinals with a huge 167-run win against the hosts Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday.
Following this comprehensive win, Karnataka will now take on Bengal at the Eden Gardens on Friday – February 29th while Gujarat thumped Goa by a massive 464 runs to take on Saurashtra, who made the last four virtue of first innings lead points against Andhra.
Batting first on a damp surface, Karnataka managed a decent 206. In reply, the hosts were bowled out for 192.
With a slender 14-run lead, Karnataka rode on Siddharth’s knock to post 316 to give Pervez Rasool’s boys to chase an overall total of 330.
