Bengaluru, November 21: Riding on KV Siddharth’s 161, Karnataka posted a mammoth total on the board against Mumbai on the second day of the Ranji Trophy in Belagavi on Wednesday.
The right-hander Siddharth’s career-best score powered Karnataka to 400. In reply, Mumbai were 99/2 at close of day’s play. Mumbai pacer Shivam Dubey picked up another three wickets to make a seven-wicket haul while Dhawal Kulkarni claimed two.
Karnataka beginning the day at 263/4 with the Karnataka’s overnight batsmen Siddharth and stand-in skipper Shreyas Gopal continued their fine run to add 90 runs for the fifth wicket.
The experienced Dhawal Kulkarni struck twice in the morning session to send Shreyas and Sharath BR back to the hut to make it 265/6.
At the other end, Siddharth joined hands with J. Suchith (30) to add a crucial 88 runs for the seventh wicket. The tail contributed important runs with Abhimanyu Mithun striking a 29-ball unbeaten 34.
Having a piled up enough on the board to defend, it’s up to Karnataka’s bowlers to fire tomorrow.
