Belagavi, November 22: Local boy Ronit More came up with a brilliant five-wicket haul to help Karnataka bowl out Mumbai for 205 on the third day of the Elite Group A encounter of the Ranji Trophy here on Thursday.
On his home turf, Ronit’s 5/52 gave the hosts Karnataka a massive 195-run lead in the first innings. Fellow pacers Abhimanyu Mithun took two wickets while Prasidh Krishna claimed one.
In reply, Karnataka were 81/3 in the second innings at close of play with an overall lead of 276 runs. Centurion KV Siddharth was in the middle on 30.
Earlier in the day, Mumbai were 99/2 overnight, lost wickets in regular intervals with Prasidh striking early on get overnight batsman Jay Bista (70). More rattled Mumbai’s middle-order triggering a mini collapse as the visitors never recovered. From the tail, Shams Mulani came up with a fighting 34 but it wasn’t simply enough.
With a healthy lead in hand, Karnataka lost the openers within no time to Mumbai skipper Dhawal Kulkarni before Siddharth and Abbas stitched together a 54-run stand for the third wicket.
With two days to go and a huge lead in hand, Karnataka could possibly utilise the conditions to register their first outright win of the season.
