Bengaluru, November 19: After narrowing escaping with a draw against champions Vidarbha in their previous game, Karnataka are back in their home soil to face Mumbai in their second Elite Group A Ranji Trophy in Belagavi on Tuesday.
In their season opener away in Nagpur, Karnataka grabbed three points virtue of first innings lead. Even rivals Mumbai have also begun their campaign with a drawn against Railways in Delhi.
After a two-week gap, Mumbai players will take the field against the hosts who have defeated them three times in last five matches. The stats do giving Karnataka an edge but the Vinay Kumar-led side will miss the services of key players. With most of the players on national duty, this game will give them an opportunity to test their skills against a strong side.
Opener R. Samarth and experienced Karun Nair have joined the India ‘A’ squad for the New Zealand tour. They have been replaced by batsmen Mir Kaunian Abbas and Liyan Khan.
For Karnataka, opener Nischal D. and ’keeper batsman Sharath BR are in rich form while left-arm spinner J. Suchith made a mark in the last encounter with a five-wicket haul. The pace attack will bank on skipper Vinay along with Abhimanyu Mithun and Prasidh Krishna.
