Having narrowly escaped with a draw against Saurashtra in their previous Elite Group clash of the Ranji Trophy, Karnataka will be eager to stage a comeback when they take on Railways on 27th January at Delhi.
From five matches, Karnataka have garnered 17 points to be placed seventh on the table while Railways – who stunned Mumbai a few weeks ago – are placed 11th on the table with 13.
Karun Nair missed the last game due to his wedding and the 28-year-old’s return to the squad is certainly a boost for the team especially in the top-order. Karnataka will bank on openers Samarth R and Devdutt Padikkal while Rohan Kadam, Pavan Deshpande and Sharath BR will make the middle-order batting line-up.
Leg-spinners Shreyas Gopal and Pravin Dubey will lead the spin department while Karnataka will look to field the in-form pacers – Mithun A, Koushik V, Ronit More and Prateek Jain at the Karnail Singh Stadium.
Meanwhile, off-spinner K Gowtham, who suffered an injury after being struck on the toe has now spent six weeks on the bench. He is expected to undergo scans on Thursday. If the 30-year-old fails the fitness test, left-arm spinner J. Suchith will likely join the squad.
Team: Karun Nair (Captain), Devdutt Padikkal, Samarth R, Rohan Kadam, Pavan Deshpande, Shreyas Gopal, Sharath Srinivas (WK), Sharath BR (WK), Mithun A, Koushik V, Ronit More, Prateek Jain, Siddharth KV, Pravin Dubey.
