Bengaluru, August 29: In the domestic circles of cricket, seasoned Sanath Kumar has etched a mark in his coaching journey. Not just with state teams, there are cricketers from different parts of the country the former Karnataka pacer has shaped their flagging careers.
In the recently concluded Quadrangular Series in Bengaluru, Sanath’s India ‘B’ went on to defeat a formidable Australia ‘B’ a comfortable margin of nine wickets in the title clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Back in 2009, Sanath donned the coaching role for Karnataka and the team went to finish runners-up that season. Later, he helped Baroda win the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. His coaching methods caught the attention of several Ranji Trophy teams but Sanath took a challenging role to train Assam. The first year with the squad, he made history.
Sanath’s coaching efforts made a sudden impact with Assam making their first quarterfinals appearance in the Ranji Trophy. In 2017, he signed up with Andhra and brought a monumental change in the players.
With multiple titles in his bag, Sanath was named bowling coach of the India U-19 team in Sri Lanka couple of months ago.
In the Quadrangular Series, legendary batsman Rahul Dravid was the India ‘A’ coach while Sanath was India ‘B’, the eventual winners. With his coaching ability, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sanath donning the coach’s hat of international team.
