Bengaluru, September 29: Mayank Agarwal’s dream to play for the Team India has finally come true. The Karnataka batsman Mayank has been great form for the last two seasons scoring a barrage of runs in all the formats for his home state and India ‘A’.

The right-handed opener has been knocking on the doors of the India team for quite some time now and finally he has been rewarded with a spot in the India Test team for the upcoming two Test series against the West Indies.

An all excited Mayank spoke exclusively to Sport Seam after the BCCI announced the team. “I’m very happy and excited to be selected. I’m looking forward to the series,” said Mayank from Baroda.

On the opening day of the two-day warm-up game against the West Indies, Mayank scored a 111-ball 90 (14×4, 2×6) that helped Board President’s XI post 360/6 declared. “I will continue playing with the same intensity and also focus on my batting,” said Mayank, who missed his 14th century in ten months.

After being ignored for the Asia Cup, Mayank said, “I never thought about getting selected or not. I was thinking more on scoring runs and didn’t think of anything else. My job is to score runs and I will continue to do that for my team,” he added

As a budding youngster Mayank always dreamt of sporting India colours. “Since I started cricket, I always dreamt of playing cricket for India. I’m very happy,” claimed the 27-year-old.

In the Test team, Mayank will join his close friend and state-mate KL Rahul. “I have opened batting with KL (Rahul) for U-19 India and Karnataka in many matches. He’s a great friend of mine and we share a great bond. If there is opportunity to open batting with him, it will be memorable.”
