Women’s cricket: Smriti fifty fires India

Galle, Sri Lanka, September 11: Opener Smriti Mandhana (76) and medium pacer Mansi Joshi (3/16) helped India Women defeat Sri Lanka Women by nine wickets in the first ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship here on Tuesday.

Mandhana smashed 11 boundaries and two sixes to power India register an easy win against the hosts.

The second ODI of the series will be played at the same venue on Thursday.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka Women: 98 all out in 35.1 overs (Chamari Atapattu 33, Sripali Weerakkody 26; Mansi Joshi 3/16, Julan Goswami 2/13, Poonam Yadav 2/13) lost to India Women: 100/1 in 19.5 overs (Smriti Mandhana 76) by nine wickets.
